Hon. Comrade Cokey Lordson Nwachukwu.

Hon. Comr. Cokey Lordson Nwachukwu was born on 30th September 1986. He is a native of the Umulu Community in the Ibere Ancient kingdom, Ibere clan, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State. He was born in Limbe, Cameroon to the family of Mr. and Mrs Cokey James Ngadiuba Gift Okorie.
He is a Nigerian activist, Trader and politician who is best known for his Political/Solidarity struggles during his time at the University.

Hon. Comr. Cokey Lordson Nwachukwu is happily married to his Beautiful Onyinye and Sweet Wahala as he fondly calls her, Mrs. Ruth Chinyerem Cokey.

Early Life

 As the Chairman of the Joint Campus Committee, it was under his leadership that students were given waivers, which enabled them to write exams even when they haven’t paid their school fees, as against the backdrop of “No school fee, No Exams” policy at the Michael Okpara University, Umudike. With his sagacious leadership, he was also able to negotiate a price slash of developmental fees for students at the Abia State Polytechnic.


He was also instrumental to the student struggle during the ASUU strike in 2018, where he led a team of students from Abia State to join the Leadership of NANS Zone B, to block the second Niger Bridge in order to make the government succumb to their demands of re-opening universities.

Political Journey

 Few people would have bet on Honorable Cokey Lordson Nwachukwu’s swift rise in politics. In a field dominated by older persons, he has broken the jinx as one of the youngest deputy chairman in Abia state and the youngest deputy chairman so far in Ikwuano Local Government Area. Immediately after his National Youth service and return to Umuahia, he became a delegate at the primaries of the PDP Governorship, Senatorial, Federal House of Representative and House of Assembly elections in 2014.


In 2015, he enrolled for a master’s degree program in Business Administration at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture. In the same year, he assumed the exalted position as the chairman of the Joint Campus Committee (JCC). In this position, he was in charge of all five (5) institutions in Abia state. The Universities are; Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Abia State University, Abia State Polytechnic, School of Health, Aba and Arochukwu College of Education. He held this position from the year 2015 – 2017.


In 2017, he ran for the office of a Zonal Treasurer of the National Association Of Nigerian Students (NANS Zone B) which he won and became the Zonal Representative of Abia State. The zone which he represented as Treasurer comprised all the south-south and south-east states in Nigeria which formed NANS Zone B. The states include; Delta, Rivers, Edo, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Imo and Ebonyi, totaling 11 states. He manned this position from 2017-2019. He was among the Leaders and Stakeholders of NANS South East to ensure that they stood on their own as a Zone in NANS, after the struggle and battle the Zone stood on its own as NANS Zone F and he was elected as the First Convention Chairman of the Zone that conducted an election to elect the first Zone F, Exco’s.


In March 2020, he became the ward chairman of PDP Ibere Ward 2. By April 2020, he became a Special Assistant (S.A) on grassroots mobilization to the Governor of Abia state. By November 2020, he was nominated as the Deputy Chairman of Ikwuano Local Government Area and won the elections.

Achievements & Empowerment

Hon. Cokey Lordson Nwachukwu found it a point of duty to ensure that throughout the last year of his tenure as Deputy Chairman of Ikwuano, every month he financially empowered the 10 Youth of Ikwuano that are into small-scale businesses from his salary.

 

 

He gave out stationeries and books to selected Primary Schools across the Four Clans that makeup Ikwuano, gave wrappers to widows, made cash donations and Christmas palliative (Rice) to Ngwugwo and Umulu women, renovated the dilapidated borne hole water of Ngwugwo Health Center and registered some youth’s in fashion designing.

He also helped give The Apostolic Church in his community a facelift.
