Early Life

Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, was born on December 9, 1962, in Ukana, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Raised in a humble background, he exhibited leadership qualities and resilience from an early age. His educational journey began at Methodist Primary School, Ukana, before proceeding to Federal Government College, Port Harcourt, where he excelled academically and in extracurricular activities.

He later attended the University of Calabar, where he studied Law and earned his LL.B degree. During his university days, he was actively involved in student leadership and advocacy, foreshadowing his future in public service. Akpabio was called to the Nigerian Bar and briefly practiced law before venturing into corporate leadership and eventually politics.

Entrepreneurship & Business

Before venturing into politics, Senator Akpabio built a solid career in the corporate sector. He served as the National Publicity Secretary of the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) and later became the Managing Director/CEO of EMIS Telecoms Limited, a telecom company that played a key role in Nigeria’s early telecommunications growth. His leadership in the private sector honed his skills in management, strategic planning, and economic development, which he later applied in governance.
